Fast eddie’s appointments to the gaming position seem to have hit some snags..

From www.post-gazette.com/pg/04289/396175.stm

“The statement released yesterday by Rendell failed to mention that Decker’s firm represents an Indian tribe, based in Oklahoma, that claims to have ancestral ties to land around Easton, Northampton County, where it wants to open a casino. ” Geez, it’s good to see that ed rendell’s appointments are absolutely free from any possibility of conflict of interest. ONe armed bandits anyone??

You have to be really careful with Indian casinos. There is a big potential with fraud. I’m from Levittown, but where I live now in California, there’s an initiative on the ballot to insure that the Indian casinos pay their fair share of income taxes. Currently, they are not required to pay ANY tax because Indian lands are tax-exempt. That’s where the fraud lies. Anyone can claim that they are part of a tribe, and that a particular plot of property is their tribal land.

On the plus side, the casinos bring jobs to the community.
