Doylestown Borough | Town Tours

Slate Bleu is a French Bistro with great food, service and drinks in a charming old building. It is perfect for a relaxing, intimate meal.

It is located in what was the Rhoades Livery in the Doylestown Agricultural Works near the Doylestown Septa Rail Station. The decor is modern but the charm of the old building is present.  We were able to park in the Agricultural Lot at no charge. Street parking is usually metered.

We had 6 pm reservations and were seated immediately. The fact that it was Good Friday and the Passover Holidays probably contributed to the number of empty tables. Our waitress told us that reservations are almost always required.  We were seated at the corner booth that is by the left side of the bar. If you want an intimate seating arrangement for a date, that is a fantastic table. The bench is rounded at that point with a round table.

We started off with some baked cheese balls and drinks. I had their Bourgone wine ($12) and my date opted for a Blood Orange Cosmo ($13).

Keep in mind when viewing their menu that Slate Bleu is a Bistro. The portions are smaller and extras are ala carte. She ordered the Green Salad (($7)  I ordered the French Onion Soup ($10) which was not the usual soup completely covered by bread and cheese. Instead the soup came with two cheese covered slices of bread dipped into the soup. The soup itself was delicious.

She ordered the Granlax which was thinly sliced house cured salmon with a dill cucumber salad. ($12.50) I ordered the poached Filet of Salmon ($14.50) with a creamy horseradish sauce and baby beets. The  Poached Salmon was a noticably larger portion than the Gravlax. Both were outstanding. We finished with creme brulee and chocolate Mousse (Both $8).

The atmosphere was well suited to a quite, intimate dinner date. A lot of younger singles and couples were eating at the bar.

The final tab was $97 plus the tip.
