The old Southampton Train Station is really beginning to show signs of deterioration.
There was a group, the Southampton Railroad Station Society, that was trying to save the station but little, progress has been made. The lower roof has been covered. The tracks have been removed to make way for a trail.
Below is the station as it appeared in January 2020. The tracks are gone and the sign for the Southampton Railroad Society is fading. The old lamps remain. The siding has many missing shingles.
The tracks in front of the station were removed around 2019. The ties remain for now.
The History of the Station
The Southampton Station, built in 1892, was a passenger station on the Newtown – Fox Chase Line. From Fox Chase, you could board trains to Philadelphia. The Southampton Freight Station was located across Second Street Pike.
Service on the line was discontinued about a year after a fiery, fatal accident at the Second Street Crossing in 1982.
